Hello everyone . Many of you follow the Charbonneau Country Club ( CCC ) Board of Directors ' actions very closely , but many of you do not .
NEWBORE
I understand that because my wife and I lived in West Linn before we moved here , and I rarely watched council and board meetings . Whatever news I got usually came from the West Linn Tidings newspaper or neighborhood gossip . Studies have shown that most of you do read the Villager , however , so I hope we are getting sufficient Charbonneau news out to you .
Our current CCC Board consists of Kathy Harp , Pat Tewell , John Mc- Clain , Anne Shevlin , Steve Switzer , Jim Gibbons , Linda Owen , Judy Brennan and I . We are all volunteers freely giving our time for the good of our community . The board does its work through our wonderful staff and through myriad committees .
Every board member chairs or cochairs

one or more committees and several members are on multiple committees . The point here is that all the board members put in numerous hours for the community ' s benefit . I would like to feature two of those board members in this column this month and plan to feature others in future columns . The two board members discussed here are the longest and the shortest serving members of the board . Both were educators in their professional careers .
The longest serving member is Kathy Harp . She and her husband Gene have lived in Charbonneau for 10 years . Her final 21 years of a 40-year educator career were spent as a metro area elementary school principal . Since initially joining the board in 2014 she has served in many capacities including president , vice president , treasurer and multiple committee chairs . She was a vital part of the golf course merger and rates that as one of her high points on the board . Kathy ' s instincts and her viewpoints on issues are extremely valuable to the board and a great help to me .
Judy Brennan was just elected to the board in May . I have worked with her on the Village Center Development Task Force and found her to be energetic , talented and full of good ideas . She will make a great addition to an already very talented board . Judy and her husband Mike have lived in Charbonneau for about three years . She began her career as an elementary teacher and soon opened her own private school . As a business person she also owned and managed a tutoring / language translation business , a restaurant and a retail design business

. She likes helping people and is looking forward to working with the board . Charbonneau is very fortunate to have Judy on the board .
In other board news , the annual CCC meeting was held May 19 . The meeting featured a summary of the CCC ' s financial picture and annual summaries of our standing committees which are : financial oversight , activities , architectural control , emergency preparedness and public safety , civic affairs , communications , governing documents review and asset management . There was also a property management report by Rick Schram , a tennis club report by Kathi Gray , a golf club report by Joe Brouillette , and an update on the new Activity Center by Anne Shevlin . The board has also begun to have work sessions on the last Tuesday of the month . These are discussion meetings on particular topics . Topics discussed thus far are the restaurant , legislation that adversely affects Charbonneau , marina parking , pickleball and committee assignments for the ensuing 12 months . These work sessions are much less structured than our regular monthly meeting as they are discussion meetings . No decisions are made but the residents can see board members ' thought

processes , get an understanding of topic issues and see which way the board is leaning before a decision is made at a regular meeting . At the end of these meetings there is a period for residents to make statements or ask questions on the meeting topics and get answers . This is a chance for resident participation and input on current topics .
Some actions taken at recent formal board meetings include postponing a Paddle Club proposal until further data is available , approving an incremental approach to improvement of the marina parking area , approving the beginning of a new security plan , which will have a central server and cameras and alarms watching over some of our valuable community assets , approving new contracts with Access Architects and BC Group for the Activity Center , and approval of the Architectural Control Committee recommended changes to the architectural standards found in your resident guide .
In summary , between our capable staff and your board , I believe Charbonneau is in good financial shape and is fulfilling what I see as our mission : spending residents ' money wisely , maintaining residents ' property values , preserving our common assets and providing activities for our residents . Speaking of property values , one of our local realtors reports that as of this writing there is not one house for sale in Charbonneau . That is the first time that has happened in her career here .
