Volunteers paint walls of golf course bathrooms

By MARY FIEWEGER AND CATHY LOFFINK

When the Charbonneau women ’ s Niners learned that the course bathrooms were going to be painted , the board recommended that murals be painted on the walls !

They contacted the Charbonneau Arts Association President Cathi McLain , and presented the idea . She was very excited and organized a Zoom call to consider the suggestion , which was unanimously approved by the board .
Cathy Loffink , CGC Board member , presented the idea to the golf board and Chris Bensel , Charbonneau Golf Club general manager and head PGA golf pro . The positive response was overwhelming , including the phrase , “ This is the best idea we have heard in years !”
With the go ahead to proceed , the Niners reached out to our local artists here in Charbonneau and the project was wellreceived . The murals are absolutely spectacular ! Not an easy feat . The work took many hours and far exceeded everyone ’ s expectations .
Let ’ s start with the women ’ s bathroom outside the Pro Shop . Cathi McLain painted a mural of her dog Jasper with a Titlelist golf ball in his mouth ( don ’ t tell John ). The painting on the Yellow Course , women ’ s bathroom ( hole No . 3 ) was done by Leslie Leeper ; the men ’ s by Cate Van Valin ( 16-year-old granddaughter of Mike and Pat Tewell ). There is also an oil painting donated by Charbonneau resident Dr . Richard Bernard . Green Course women ’ s bathroom was painted by Kim Warram ( a mural of the No . 12 hole at Augusta Golf Course ). Dave Massing ’ s artistic talents are on display on the men ’ s side . Red Course women ’ s bathroom ( hole No . 5 ) was painted by Bobbi Christiansen , with a picture by former resident Larry Eichen on the men ’ s side .
Thank you to all the artists for their time and for sharing their talent !
