The Niners

By MARY FIEWEGER

Hoping for a more eventful season

Happy New Year ! Hope everyone enjoyed a fun and healthy holiday season .
What an unusual season for
FIEWEGER us . We were able to meet for a couple of scrambles but missed all our fun luncheons and events !
With virtually nothing on the event calendar for 2020 , we expect things will be different this coming season .
The schedule of events will be coming out in the March issue as we lock in dates for the scrambles and luncheons , outings , etc .
Each year the Niners purchase gift cards to distribute to Pro Shop employees and the maintenance crew during the holiday . This is in appreciation for their dedication and hard work and courtesies extended to us during the golf season .
We learned the Wilsonville Food Bank needed financial help for local families struggling during this holiday season . The Niners hosted a Complimentary Gift Wrap in The Turn . We offered to gift wrap all items purchased in the Pro Shop and

in addition , up to three additional items from Charbonneau residents . This prompted donations . Money was donated to the food bank and they were appreciative .
For the first time in 14 years , the Pink Ball Golf Tournament was canceled . Thank you to so many generous Niners for their donations to OHSU-Knight Cancer Institute . Lisa Nolen , OHSU , was thrilled with our support and looks forward to coordinating a tour of the Institute for our group this year . Many of us took the tour and it is certainly worth the trip !
Co-vice President Kathy Hartlaub represented us on the Charbonneau Scholarship Committee . The Men ’ s Club , CWGA and the Niners jointly coordinated the effort to award the

scholarships to Pro Shop employees and the maintenance crew . We support the Scholarship Committee through voluntary donations on our membership applications .
Congratulations to Cathy Loffink on being chosen to represent the Niners on the Charbonneau Golf Board . This is a first for a Niner to sit on the board ! Will be interesting to hear her reports from the board !
Seasoned Niner By Cheryl Barnum
Talk about a busy Niner . Karen Siegel is the “ one .” She moved to Charbonneau 23 years ago and continued working for many years . While working , she owned her own business and volunteered for the American Red Cross . After retirement , Karen jumped right into joining the Niners activities and CHOA . She is the current landscape chairperson for CHOA , which includes selecting plants and flowers , designing improvements and updates . As a Niner she has served as co-vice president , co-president and currently as treasurer . On top of that , Karen is also involved in New Member Orientation and on the Scoring Committee using the new Golf Genius software . Her favorite part about the Niners : All the golf opportunities to play with other members . Karen said she loves to see the golfers enjoying themselves and feels like they have become more like sisters than friends . She is also on the Niners Dance Team and enjoys being in the skits . The group entertains at the Niners endof-the-year banquet and also for Charbonneau residents , family and friends . She starred as a Mermaid in “ Under the Sea .” One day her foursome was coming up on Green No . 9 ( water hole ), when all of a sudden Karen disappeared . Her group looked around and watched Karen emerge from the pond , wringing out her clothes , but kept her head above water . Yes she retrieved her ball ! Thank you Karen for all your hard work and being the Niners “ Little Mermaid !”
We still have openings for many of the committees . Please contact Karen Siegel or Deb Nemes if you would like to know more about the committee opportunities .
We look forward to a fun 2021 golf season .
