August 2020 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 3 Charbonneau businesses open doors with limited services Private gatherings at Charbonneau Country Club reduced to 10 people in size By CLARA HOWELL Charbonneau businesses are back up and running — with safety precautions and protocols in place. Curry’s Landing, Lux Sucre Desserts and The Turn are all open and offering outdoor seating — though The Turn also has space to seat 10 people indoors on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Charbonneau Salon & Spa is also offering services by appointment only. Curry’s Landing is serving a full lunch and dinner menu and has about eight or nine tables outside. “We are only seating up to six people in a group — six to eight is the max that we’re doing,” said owner Bill Grier. Bill said people have to wear a mask to come inside the building and when using the restroom. There are game machines that are open but only two people are allowed in the room and must alert the server so they can sanitize the machines after each use. Bill said the restaurant is taking reservations and all to-go food can be called in at 503-694-2223. The restaurant also provides beer and wine to-go. Bill said that although safety measures are in place, he’s noticed people not abiding by the rules. “They’re not practicing social distancing. We see it all the time here,” he said. “I’m in awe. I can’t believe it.” He encourages people to wear their masks and practice social distancing. Lux Sucre Desserts also has outdoor seating but they don’t serve people out there. Folks can enter the lobby in a mask, one group at a time and sit outside with their purchased items. “We just ask that people stay within their seating area to keep everyone safe and healthy,” said Brandon Walters with Lux, adding that they have new local summer teas and coffee available. “We miss everyone and we hope they will make the trip out.” At Charbonneau Salon & Spa, stylists are working limited days and if people arrive early to their appointment, the business is asking people to wait outside to reduce the amount of people in the salon at a given time. “Normally we disinfect between each client so that hasn’t changed much. We’re just doing even more of that,” said owner Evelyn Fowler. “We’re all wearing masks. We ask that all our clients bring a mask when they come in.” As of the Villager’s press time, Gov. Kate Brown’s latest orders required people to wear masks outdoors where a distance of 6 feet cannot be met and limited indoor gatherings to 10 people. For Charbonneau Country Club, CCC Manager Jim Meierotto said that means the only change people will see at the CCC is private gatherings limited to 10 people. He said it doesn’t affect the CCC’s fitness classes, board meetings or other activities, unless individual groups choose to do so. He said the CCC is somewhat exempt because it is a business, and these rules are being interpreted as more “household rules.” “This is today; everything’s changing,” Jim said, adding that buffets or similar concepts are still not being permitted at this time. “Obviously our first goal is keeping people safe, that’s our priority and our goal.” As of the Villager’s press deadline, Clackamas County had not reapplied for Phase 2 after the 21-day stay on reopening imposed on Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington expired July 10. All three counties were still failing to meet multiple indicators for Phase 2 reopening individually and as a region. Jim said at this point, all staff members are back in the office after being required to work from home. He said staff maintained full business continuity and operations continued throughout the stay-at-home portion of the pandemic. Bringing Back The House Call Stay Safe. Stay Comfortable.
