August 2020 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 17 Charbonneau Women’s Golf Association By CATHI MCLAIN Congratulations to several winners The editorial theme for August is savor. Living on a golf course during a pandemic gives us many reasons to savor our environment and our ability to get outside, where it is safer to be with friends and family. Even during the first scary days of the COVID-19 pandemic, our golf course was busier than ever, with golfers enjoying the sport we love and doing so safely. The summer sun reflecting off the immaculate fairways and the amazing assortment of trees that dot the course truly do give us every reason to savor the season. August is usually CWGA’s busiest month, with Men’s Invitational kicking off the month and our Club Championship following soon after. We had to forego the fun of Guest Day in July and now Men’s Invitational as we know it has been canceled in favor of a scaled-down event that eliminates most of our responsibilities. The new event will be called Charbonneau Points Shoot-Out. It will be a two-day event Aug. 6 and 7, but will be limited to members only, and with a change in the activities, payouts and scope. CW- GA members will still be involved, but as with most things this season, it will have a different look and feel. Like us, the Men’s Club has done everything they can to retain some semblance of the traditions that mark the golf year. And speaking of tradition, our own Club Championship Competition will take place Aug. 27 and 28. Course protocol reminder We are reminded to always keep golf carts at least 30 feet from the greens, and as a courtesy to the group behind you, to park push carts to the side in the direction of the next hole. COURTESY PHOTO Partners Competition winners Alex Carney (left) and Susan Taylor hoist the championship trophy June 18. The card-off second place team of Carylne Lynch and Faye Judson, were not available for the photo. And in case you missed the email reminder, the “noodles” in the cups allow for the ball to go into the hole, so the previous temporary rule allowing bounce-off, is no longer in place. You must sink the putt. Jean Hansen is Florida bound CWGA members bid a fond farewell to longtime member and friend, Jean Hansen, as she and her husband Dick, consolidated their lives from two homes to one, and moved permanently to Florida. Jean has served on many committees with CWGA, including co-president, and co-chair of CWGA’s Men’s Invitational Committee. She played on several WIP teams and was a big part of our success as a club. She will be missed! Congrats to partners competition winners This year’s Partners Competition took place June 18. Seventy-eight players joined the field for the one-day event, one of our best turnouts. Although we had to forego the usual celebratory lunch afterward, we were able to gather on the rose garden lawn for the awards announcement and even socially distanced.
