August 2020 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 5 Sunshine Service By JOAN VEDDER Getting organized for items to be returned — fi nally Well July brought haircuts for my husband and myself ... how about you? Sure seemed like a long time since VEDDER the last one! Local residents managed a few “elective” surgeries before the virus accelerated again. Two badly broken ankles (different ladies), a hip replacement or two, cataracts, etc. The Sunshine Service was able to help people in need of equipment, via personal delivery since March. We’re basically getting organized again so that you can return your items now. God bless you for hanging onto stuff for months on end! Give one of us AAUW From Page 4 United States? Three generations of women and their supporters worked on this goal for 72 years. The quilt honors these brave and persistent activists. AAUW is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. Nationally, AAUW has awarded over $3 million in scholarships and grants in the past year. The Lake Oswego Branch supports the AAUW Fund as well as providing local scholarships. AAUW LO offers an advocacy group, six book groups, lunch bunch, a dinner group, exploring our Northwest, a bridge group and meetings focused on the issues of the day. For information about AAUW Lake a call (volunteer names in your CCC Directory) and we will meet you at the clubhouse, sign you back in and sanitize things for the next client. If you are a SpringRidge client and do not drive anymore, let us know and we will arrange to pick up from you. May I remind you that we appreciate monetary donations. Any amount — big or small — is most welcome. We receive no funding whatsoever; we are strictly a voluntary service to Charbonneau residents. In most cases you have been able to borrow some pricey equipment for extended lengths of time. Purchasing these things wouldn’t be efficient because after several weeks, you would no longer need them! With “money-in-the-bank” as they say, we are able to replace worn out items and keep our cupboard full of good equipment for your use. The future looks a bit “iffy” as to virus control and we will no doubt still be wearing masks at holiday time. We are fortunate to be able to walk around Charbonneau and thus get some fresh air. Depression at a time like this is very real so keep in contact with friends and loved ones. Watch a comedy on TV, play beautiful music, nurture a flower in your garden ... it can’t last forever!
