It was 11:30 a . m . and the room was buzzing as members and guests visited . Oh it is so nice to be able to gather and visit with neighbors and friends , evidenced by the difficult time we had having them take their seats for the luncheon and program . A delicious pork loin luncheon was enjoyed on beautiful tables of pink and burgundy linens . It ’ s Party Time catered the luncheon and Elaine Owen of Lady Hill Winery was our guest speaker . Wines were served from their winery by our Laura Curran . Choices were Lady Hill 2019 Chardonnay , Lady Hill 2020 Pinot Gris and 2016 Procedo Red Blend . They were all outstanding !

It was very interesting to learn from Elaine about the family and their journey to becoming winemakers . Capturing the earth , the weather and the year in a bottle , wine is the ultimate form of farming . It was in 1995 when Elaine and Jerry added vines to the fields of vegetables , grains and arborvitae on the family ’ s fifth generation Willamette Valley farm . They designated this 20-acre estate vineyard St . Columban . In 1999 , they co-founded Owen Roe

Winery in what was formerly the machine shop for the farm . They rolled out the tractors and combines and rolled in the tanks and barrels , transforming the space into a full-production winery .

The winery is situated on 1,500 acres that the family has farmed since the 1850s . Adjacent to Champoeg State Heritage Area where Oregon ’ s first provisional government was founded in 1843 , each generation has cultivated crops , family and memories . In 2012 , they created a new winery and gathering space that would honor the past and contribute to the rich history of the land .

If you have not been out to Lady Hill Winery you should take a drive . The winery has numerous wine tastings , musical entertainment , and , of course , a wine club . And if you are looking for a fun travel plan , Elaine and her husband Jerry have also planned a River Cruise for Wine Lovers , a journey along the Rhone River for Nov . 17-24 , 2022 . To stay connected and welcome new residents in a less formal atmosphere we have planned a June event . Save the Date of June 27 and join us for a fun evening of wine tasting at the winery . Our last luncheon until September will be held on 11 a . m . Monday May 9 . This is our fabulous luncheon and fashion show . Fashions will be presented by Julie Reece of Chico ’ s at Washington Square . Dalton ’ s will be catering the luncheon at 11:30 a . m . Our models this year will be Marilyn Carnine , Leesa Gango , Gail Mann , Carol McHugh , Ellen

Newbore , Mary Tillery and Claudia de Vries . Come cheer them on and see the latest spring fashions . Members and guests may sign up until Tuesday , May 3 or until sold out in the usual place in the CCC Event Center Coat room . The cost is $ 35 for members and $ 40 for nonmembers .
