Young women have chance to explore career as firefighter

The Portland Metro Fire Camp will take place in July .
Applications are being accepted for Portland Metro Fire Camp for young women ages 16 to 22 . This camp is an all-encompassing introduction to a rewarding profession . The camp is designed to instill confidence while building leadership and team skills .
Participants will learn what it takes to be a firefighter while completing hands-on training in hose and ladder skills , vehicle extrication , search and rescue , ropes and knots , live-fire operations , aerial ladder climbs , forcible entry , emergency medical skills and other firefighting tasks .
They will also receive instruction from professional female firefighters from multiple agencies on how to prepare for interviews and gain insight on what it ’ s like to have a career in the fire service as well as the importance of good nutrition and physical fitness .
This free fire camp will be
offered twice this summer on two weekends .
The first camp will be held July 8-10 at the Portland Fire & Rescue Training Center , 4800 NE 122nd Ave ., in Portland .
The second camp will take place July 15-17 at Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue ’ s Training Center , 12400 SW Tonquin Road , in Sherwood .
The deadline to apply for both camps is May 30 at midnight . Space is limited . Notifications of those selected to participate will be emailed the week of June 1 . Applications and more information are available online at www . portlandmetrofirecamp . com .

City of Wilsonville , new attorney come to terms on employment contract

Wilsonville City Council unanimously voted to approve the employment contract of Amanda Guile-Hinman as the new city attorney during a meeting Monday , April 4 .
Guile-Hinman will start May 2 and will be paid $ 163,000 per year along with other benefits , though the council can reevaluate compensation each year .
The city chose Guile-Hinman , who is the current city of McMinnville attorney and previously served as an assistant city attorney in Wilsonville , following a candidate search and interview process . She will run a department that also includes Assistant City Attorney Ryan Adams and a legal
secretary . Guile-Hinman replaces Barbara Jacobson , who retired at the end of March .
Mayor Julie Fitzgerald said at the meeting that Guile-Hinman was “ ideally suited ” for the role .
Other council business
The city approved construction contracts for the second phase of a project to convert lighting in town to LED with Northstar Electrical Contractors and a contract with Northwest Playground Equipment for amenities in two new Villebois parks . Further , the city approved zoning and map amendments for a new 12.95-acre subdivision in the Frog Pond West neighborhood .
