Inclement weather
Hopefully , by the time you read this , the weather will have returned to the beautiful Oregon springs and summers we are used to . But because of this spring ’ s wetter and cooler than normal conditions , the Board has reviewed the Men ’ s Club “ Inclement Weather Policy ,” specifically as it applies to the team games which normally take place on Saturdays . Weather sometimes impacts the number of player withdrawals after publication of the tee sheet and the number of “ no shows ” on the morning of the game , both of which make it difficult to have a team game in a fair manner without using numerous “ blind draws .”
In order to create a better game situation on bad weather days , the Board has agreed that it is preferable to change the game from a team game to an individual game before the game starts and will use a “ trigger ” of 15 % or more withdrawals from the field based upon the final tee sheet . While this may not solve all of the problems , we believe it will help .
Under our current “ Game Day Policy ,” the Board does have the authority to cancel the money game all together . This means that the $ 5 money game would not be played , but members could play golf if they so choose .
Men ’ s Club Play - nine holes
The Charbonneau Men ’ s Club membership does not differentiate between those who play nine holes versus those who play 18 holes . As we get into our Men ’ s Club 2022 golf season , if you choose to play nine holes of golf ( instead of 18 ), play days are Wednesday and Friday mornings . Our Men ’ s Club 9 Hole group has a reserved block of foursome tee times those respective mornings starting at 10:02 a . m . Signups for nine-hole play days are done through the Pro Shop , preferably 24 hours before the game . Should you have a question about this , please contact Joe Fieweger or a Men ’ s Club board member .
Rules of golf
It ’ s so easy when playing golf to reach over and hurriedly miss a onefoot tap in for a par , but is it harder to count it ? Or ask your partners for forgiveness ?
I ran across an article in Golf Digest that addressed this question , as well as several others , in a study done by two research psychologists : “ Where Do You Fall On Golf ’ s Honesty Meter ?” ( golfdigest . com / story / golf-honesty-survey ).
Here is what their research showed on this question :
Your putt comes up a foot short of the hole . You step carefully around the ball markers of the other members of your group and take an awkward stance to avoid standing in anyone ’ s line . You make a quick stroke and miss what would normally be an easy tap-in .
Would you count the putt as if you made it : Never : 59 % Under some circumstances : 41 % “ Rule-breakers ” who think most people break the rule : 98 % “ Rule-followers ” who think most people break the rule : 57 %
What would you do ? Of course , the “ rules of golf ” would require you count all strokes until the ball is in the hole .
