boys there , with a gift for every one of them . Each boy received a gym bag just packed with good stuff . Included in the bag was a basketball , just for him , a great sweatshirt , socks , a hacky sack , a water bottle , a gym towel and a frog that , when pulled and let go , stuck to the wall — or someone else ’ s head ! What ’ s more there was a box with two dozen cookies only for him . Hey , this is fun , this is really great ! I think I ’ m going to try to trade a couple of these cookies with Jason for a couple of his .
This was a representative story .
What follows is not representative .
Where had all these bags come from ? Right here in Charbonneau ! Dianne McMichael organizes this every year . The funds are made possible by the Rotary Club of Wilsonville and also RE / MAX . The cookies come from the folks who are members of the Cypress Branch of Boys & Girls Aid . Each year we take cookies to Dianne ’ s house and gather to assemble the bags .
Members of the Rotary Club of Wilsonville blew up basketballs to give to the kids . It was a lot of work but a great Christmas gift for Adam and all the other boys . Thank you to RE / MAX and the Rotary Club of Wilsonville .
We had a brunch on Nov . 19 at the Charbonneau Country Club . Members were emailed for a reservation . Nonmembers called Jan Bliss at 503-539-9095 by Monday , Nov . 15 . The price was $ 20 at the door by check or online with a credit card . People were required to wear a mask and bring their vaccination card or a test that shows within 72 hours that they were free of COVID . If you showed a vaccination card at the last luncheon we have a record of that .
At the December lunch , all of us will be making a needy child ’ s holiday truly merry by bringing the unwrapped gift that was on the request card we chose at the November luncheon . These gifts go to boys and girls at the Boys and Girls Aid of Portland . They are wrapped there and distributed to the children during the holidays . If you missed the November lunch and wish to pick up a card requesting a gift call Leslie Walker at 503-694- 8549 .

Email is our best form of timely communication

The CCC Board has established mid-month “ workshops ” for the directors to be able to have a free flowing discussion on various topics . This allows the board to exchange ideas without the structure and the time constraints of a regular meeting . Last month , the board discussed ways to enhance the way we communicate to the community .
Right now , in order to get out the most timely information , our administrative staff uses email . Of course , everyone gets more email than they might want . And , of course , we believe our messages are of vital importance . Sometimes they are , sometimes they are just reminding our neighbors that an event is either scheduled or canceled .
We are hindered by the fact that the Villager ’ s deadline for entry is usually the 10th of the previous month . The timeliness ( or tardiness ) of the paper limits is effectiveness to general

information and future events .
Our EPPS Committee sends an email once a month as a “ Neighbor Care ” bulletin . In October , the message was centered on the Great Oregon Shake Out , an annual drill to help us prepare for a catastrophic earthquake .
People are sometimes reluctant to give out their email . We get that . But here are some assurances . First , we don ’ t share any information with anyone outside of the office . The CCC Board does not use email to communicate with the community unless it goes through the office or if it is in a reply to a resident . But the fact remains that if you want to stay current on what your HOA is doing , then email is the best source .
Our new website is inching closer to launch . Charbonneau ’ s Elaine Swyt has been working on the project with the Communications Committee for several months . It is a big job but I think most will be pleased with the finished product . With this new platform , we hope to be more flexible in our ability to get our messaging out more effectively . For example , it will be easy to access minutes of our board meetings , as well as summaries of various committee meetings .
Over the past two years our ability to interact with our members has been limited due to the restrictions of the pandemic . In response to that , the board will now take questions or comments at the end of our Zoom board meetings . This format is limited , but it does keep a direct line of communication open between the members and their board .
