When Lindy Anderson speaks to a new Charbonneau resident who is interested in becoming more involved in the community , she tells them about the plethora of clubs and activities available to them .
There ’ s golfing clubs , art clubs , social clubs , clubs for playing games and much more . And she adds that even if there is not an existing club for a hobby a resident hopes to pursue , they can start one up .
“ I say that Charbonneau is like a cruise ship on the ground ,” Anderson said . “ There ’ s so many organizations ; you could be busy every day .”
The community can glean more specific information about each of these clubs and activities , as well as businesses and other organizations in the area , during the Community Information Day 4:30-7:30 p . m . Thursday , Aug . 11 , at the Event Center . This is the first year Charbonneau Country Club has hosted this event since the COV- ID-19 pandemic .
Anderson said that at least 40 tables representing local groups will be in attendance at the event , and that the first half hour is specifically for newcomers to the community .
“ It ’ s really well attended and I think it ’ s a very important thing to do because when people move here , they don ’ t really know what ’ s going on . They see the Villager , but this is hands on — people talk to them and answer their questions ,” Anderson said .
Then , the rest of the evening is for all Charbonneau residents who want to learn more about their community . When Anderson moved here , for instance , she learned about the Mah Jongg meetup and now is an avid player . Also , some groups and local businesses that will be in attendance include Gather + Give , WilsonvilleSTAGE , Charbonneau Book Club and the new pickleball club .
“ They ( attendees ) are going to find out about a lot of clubs and businesses that they may not know about in the area ,” she said .
Anderson added that attendees should bring their checkbooks as organizations don ’ t take cash and some don ’ t take credit cards . She also said that there will be a raffle where some lucky people will win prizes . Food and beverages are usually available as well , but that had yet to be determined at press time .
