Try out our local , tasty food options

Hello everyone .
Food , that ’ s what is on my mind this month . Next to a good , cold beer , food is a pretty good thing . In Charbonneau
NEWBORE we are lucky in that respect , now having four places where we can get food . First , we have our longtime restaurant , Curry ’ s Landing , which has served us well for many years . I have lunch there once or twice a month and enjoy it . Lux Sucre Desserts has a unique market . Its expansion has brought a lot of both residents and non-residents to the Village Center and their pastries in the morning and sandwiches for lunch are really good . I do my morning walk down there sometimes as my mind says the calories gained by eating one of their pastries are burned off by my walk . That might not be true , but it works for me . Try Gather + Give for appetizers for your next summer party . I had one of their little boxes at their grand opening and again at the Festival of Arts , plus my share of a big platter at a celebration of life event . Their appetizers
are hearty , very tasty and yummy . If you want some lunch or dinner food that will knock your socks off , try the food at the Market Café at Charbonneau in the golf shop area . No , you don ’ t have to be a golfer to go in and have a great meal . They are open from 10 a . m . to 8 p . m . Their lunches , pizza , salads , soups , and dinner items are outstanding . Closing at 8 p . m . gives you enough time to have dinner and get home before the sidewalks start rolling up in Charbonneau . So , I urge the entire Charbonneau community to go down and try it . I ’ m pretty sure you will go back again after the first time .
Well , enough about food . There was no CCC Board meeting in June , but , at the July meeting , which was only the second in-person meeting over the past two years , the board filled the vacant board seat , created by the loss of our beloved Pat Tewell , with Larry Walker , who had been on the board a few years ago . Larry is a good thinker and makes solid decisions . Welcome back , Larry ! With Pat gone , the board reworked some of our board committees . The board was also briefed on two capital projects : Edith Green Park development and covering the outdoor tennis courts . Also approved was a charter for the new Pickleball Club , and John McLain will be the CCC board tennis liaison . General manager Jim Meierotto presented an outline of a plan that would give fobs to enter parts of the Activity and Event Centers to all residents ,
not just those who belong to the fitness center . A small group of people will provide some edits to the plan and a vote may be taken on it at the August meeting .
Staff , board and tennis officials are still in the process of soliciting bids to cover the outside tennis courts . After a Geotech report and permitting are complete , it will still take a while to construct the building since the lead time to get steel is so long right now . The board is also moving along on Edith Green Park , having engaged SERA Design to provide the landscape architect support to help us get started . Property boundary and topographical surveys are needed first , so we can have accurate construction drawings for the eventual design and permitting process . The survey work should take place about the middle of July . The board Park Committee can then work on the final design and it is anticipated that project construction will be phased over a few years with some work done this year .
Our new fitness center is doing well with over 350 members now . I always smile when I think about people driving a mile each way to get there so they can walk two miles on a treadmill . The other day an individual said to me “ Getting in shape is key to my lifestyle .” I patted my tummy and responded by saying “ Hey , round is a shape !” In all seriousness , congratulations to the fitness center members . Staying fit is a key to a healthy life . Happy August everyone .

We enjoyed our time at Wimbledon

A few of our tennis members finally , after two years , were able to travel to tennis heaven — Wimbledon , England ! Kathi Gray , Stacy Naccachian , Linda Edwards and Audi Anaya nervously boarded their flights for the long await-
GRAY
ed adventure . I am pleased to report that no one in our group contracted COVID-19 and we all remained healthy throughout the trip . The Wimbledon tennis tournament is held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon , outside of London . The tournament runs from June 27 to July 10 . It is one of the four major tournaments , which also include the Australian Open , held in January , the French Open in May and the US Open in September .
Spectators from around the world come to this exciting event of tennis and tradition . Among the many English traditions are all-white attire and their famous Pimm ’ s drinks made with various fruits , lemonade and , of course , gin . You must include strawberries and cream in the delicacies also . The English take this event very seriously and , instead of the common attire to watch sports , you will find sports coats and ties for the gentlemen and floral dresses of all kinds for the ladies to enjoy their day as spectators . Everyone , from those who are relaxed to serious , has a great experience at Wimbledon ! We came home with many exciting memories that will be with us for a long time . We have a new appreciation for all the volunteers and workers that it takes to put on such an event that the English hold in such esteem !
The first championships were held in 1877 at the club . The first ladies championships were held in 1884 . We have come a long way !
