MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
ZANE PANNELL FULTON HIGH SCHOOL | SENIOR
There is a reason Zane Pannell is a nominee in two separate categories . He was just that dominant for the Steamers this season . First in football , he was dominant on the defensive line , earning 1st Team NUIC defensive lineman honors . He recorded 90 tackles , 47 assists , 17 tackles for loss , 3 sacks and 6 fumble recoveries in his senior season and that was not even his best sport . As many know , Pannell is a dominant wrestler . In his senior season , he took third place in the IHSA Class 1A State Tournament . He had a 52-2 record in the 170 lb weight class , losing just one match in the state of Illinois where he avenged that loss later in the tournament to earn third place in Class 1A . It was quite the finish to his high school career for Pannell .
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
SARAH MOELLER PRINCE OF PEACE HIGH SCHOOL | SENIOR
Moeller was a three sport athlete for the Irish where she succeeded in all three sports , leyball , basketball and track & field . She vol- was nominated for three other awards including both basketball ball awards and the field award . Moeller er led the Irish offensviely with 13.6 ppg , earning Tri-Rivers East First Team honors . The senior had 155 blocks to lead the entire state in that category . She also added 177 rebounds to solidify her defensive season in basketball . In track & field , she was the lone Prince of Peace girl to pate . She qualified for state in partici-
both shotput and discus . She placed sixth in both the Class 1A discus throw and shot put throw with distances of 113 ft , 1 in . and 37 ft , 6 in . respectively .
