FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR FAITH DERONDE
OSKALOOSA HIGH SCHOOL
Faith DeRonde capped off a huge junior season in three sports for the Oskaloosa Indians in the 2020-21 school year . She garnered first team all-state honors in softball , second team honors in volleyball and was a state champion thrower during the track and field season . DeRonde started her year on the hardwood leading the Oskaloosa volleyball team to a 21-8 record and trip to regional finals . She would account for half of Oskaloosa ’ s kills with 401 on the season and a . 307 kill efficiency while also leading the Indians with 210 digs and 51 aces while finishing second with 28 blocks . In the spring she would throw for the Indian track and field team . She would qualify for the Drake Relays in both throwing events , finishing third in shot and 13th in discus while also running in the 4x100 prior to throwing . DeRonde would go on to compete at the state meet at the blue oval , bringing home the discus title with her throw of 140-1 before taking ninth in the shot put with a toss of 38-3.5 and 19th in the sprint medley . DeRonde wrapped up her junior season on the diamond by helping lead the Indians to state . DeRonde pitched all 10 innings in an upset extra-inning win over Norwalk in the regional semifinals . She would then send Oskaloosa to state with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh in the regional final . In the circle , DeRonde finished with a 15-8 record with a 2.04 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 151 innings . At the plate , DeRonde hit leadoff with a . 349 batting average with six doubles , seven home runs and 16 RBIs .
