DONORS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

2221 Society Celebrates $ 5 Million Raised Since 2018

Named after one of the hospital’ s first locations— 2221 Downing Street— Children’ s Hospital Colorado Foundation’ s 2221 Society was formed in 2018 by like-minded leaders dedicated to transforming children’ s health and supporting the Foundation’ s mission. Since the group’ s founding eight years ago, the 2221 Society has raised more than $ 5 million for Children’ s Colorado, quadrupling its fundraising of $ 228,000 in 2018 to more than $ 1 million in 2025.
Propelling a Cure for a Deadly Brain Tumor
In 2025, the 2221 Society’ s fundraising efforts were dedicated to supporting the launch of initial clinical trials for a novel therapeutic for diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma( DIPG), a highly aggressive, lethal brain tumor. The 2221 Society’ s investment is helping to push forward a cure for the deadliest childhood cancer, potentially paving a path for curing other previously hard to treat and deadly cancers.
Advancing Better Breathing for Premature Babies
This year, the 2221 Society will focus its fundraising efforts on supporting cutting-edge care for premature babies with underdeveloped lungs. One in three premature babies are born with lung conditions, and until recently, the only way to monitor premature babies’ lungs was through x-rays or CT scans— methods that carry several drawbacks and risks. Now, a novel form of imaging, called electrical impedance tomography( EIT), has been developed to address these challenges.
Gallop for Good: Where Tradition Meets Generosity
Funds raised by the 2221 Society’ s 2nd annual Gallop for Good, a derby affair that coincides with the running of the Kentucky Derby every first Saturday in May, will also help Children’ s Colorado launch the first comprehensive EIT program of its kind in the nation— transforming care for premature babies with lung conditions.
