When Every Mile

INVESTING IN SOUTHERN COLORADO

Prior to 2019, Colorado Springs was one of the largest major metro areas in the country without a dedicated pediatric hospital.
Families living in southern Colorado often had to travel for hours to receive comprehensive specialty care for kids with acute or complex medical needs. Children’ s Hospital Colorado— ranked among the Top 10 pediatric hospitals in the country by U. S. News & World Report— invested more than $ 115 million in capital construction costs and $ 50 million to hire more than 1,000 caregivers to open a new hospital in Colorado Springs.
Philanthropy played an important role in bringing world-class medical care to the region. Our incredible community donated more than $ 15 million to make the hospital a reality. And since the hospital opened, the southern Colorado region has donated approximately $ 34 million to support the mission of Children’ s Colorado and care closer to home.
Care closer to home means families can stay together when they need it most. It means they can spend less time in the car, with fewer disruptions to school, and parents have less time away from work. Ultimately, this eases the emotional and financial burden on families, while helping kids heal faster. And when every minute counts during a medical crisis, having a pediatric Emergency Department nearby makes a lifesaving difference.
