WHAT WE DO
ABOUT SRI
Social Resources Institute
(SRI) is a non-profit research
institution founded in 2008.
The institute focuses on issues
related to the livelihoods of
peasants and the development
of rural communities. We seek
to cooperate with development
organizations, governments,
and enterprises to respond
to the specific needs of rural
communities, develop effective
solutions at a local level, and as
well as encourage governments
to create and implement policies
that better rural areas. SRI is
committed to knowledge sharing
and action in the field of rural
community development, socially
responsible investment, and
poverty alleviation.
Market for Poverty Alleviation: The lack of capacity to take advantage of market
opportunities causes relative poverty. We are committed to helping peasants
get involved in the agriculture industry more effectively. Whilst trying to alleviate
poverty, we also aim to promote environmentally friendly agriculture in China.
Rural Community Development: Participatory approaches and people-centered
development paths are the cornerstones of our development method. We are
committed to using our experience from community practice, as well as applying
public knowledge to our action research and participatory approaches.
Socially Responsible Investment: We dedicate ourselves to promoting business
investment and other business conducts that do not impair the basic rights
and sustainable livelihoods of rural community residents. We support corporate
community investment projects so that we can contribute to achieving a
sustainable livelihood for the poor and to reach a win-win situation.
SRI’S PARTICIPATION IN
INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
1. To Promote Chinese Enterprises to Carry Out Socially Responsible
Overseas Investment
In Southeast Asia and Africa, we study the impacts of Chinese enterprises’
investments, operations and community investment projects on rural
communities in emerging countries. This is in an attempt to encourage
enterprises to act responsibly through capacity building and policy advocacy.
2. Participation in International Advocacy
Based on the research findings, we participate in the civil society dialogue
mechanisms of G20, BRICS and AIIB, such as the C20 and Civil BRICS,
to be able to voice and submit our policy recommendations on the
international development agenda and share our experience with global NGO
representatives.
SRI PUBLICATIONS
In January 2017, SRI invited domestic and
foreign practitioners from Greenpeace, the
Mekong River Regional GRET Network, Oxfam
in Cambodia, a French NGO named CCL,
the Practical Action Nepal Office and other
researchers and scholars to discuss the issues
around eco-agricul ture and value chain. SRI also
invited the Southeast Asian partners to visit the
Beijing Farmer s’ Market.
