End of Semester Assessments
Here at GGGA we have a high standard for improvement in all areas of training.
Students focus on producing their best golf, metal, academic and fitness training.
How do we make sure students are making the progress needed to reach their
individual goals? We track progress - and in my fitness world we do this with
semester assessments.
At the beginning and end of a semester, students are required to go through
a series of fitness tests that were custom designed to support the GGGA 5
areas of training. In last months article (See May 2016), we explained the testing
protocol of one of these tests called the Functional Movement Screen(FMS) is
a pre-participation screening tool designed to identify compensatory movement
patterns that are indicative of increased injury risk and inefficient movement that
cause reduced performance.
The GGGA Fitness program produces results! On average, student’s score
improve an average of 6.1 points just over the course of one semester. This alone
is phenomenal improvement. Some students improve as much as 12 to 15 points in
just a few months of training.
One of our toughest challenges in our assessment is the 1200yd shuttle run test.
For the shuttle run test, the athlete must run two sets of 600yds in 2min each in
order to score the best score they can. After 3 months of aerobic and cardiovascular
training, our students improved on an average of 26s.
