BE YOUR OWN MVP
with your Pre-Tournament Mental Preparation
Imagine you have the ability to go back in time and relive your first day of school. Would this be
exciting or nerve racking? Put those feelings aside. Envision that you were so focused on how you
wanted it to go that you forgot your shoes. Yes, your shoes. This may seem like an obvious item to
remember because your shoes help you navigate throughout the day, but how often do you really
notice them. Your shoes in this case are much like your Mental Preparation before a tournament...
at times overlooked and only really noticed by others when it stands out, for better or worse.
Work on your mental preparation by following the tips below... be an M.V.P :

MINDSET
Approach every tournament with a growth mindset. This allows
each golfer to naturally adapt to the challenges of the day and
respond with better action. This is the first thing that people
notice. Having a weak mindset often means that you are
unable to adapt. Try using an affirmation such as,
“Challenge Accepted!” to address challenges.
VISUALIZATION
In the days leading up to a tournament, prepare by not only
seeing and shaping shots, but also by visualizing. How do you
want the tournament to go? What do you NOT want to happen?
Seeing yourself beforehand allows you to decide how you would
like to react to a situation before it happens, what will be
most productive and helps to increase resilience.
PRODUCTIVE PROCESS
USE PROCESS GOALS! Process goals are ones that you have
100% control over the outcome. This could be something as
simple as making sure to commit to a specific starting point
for each shot. The key for your process goals is to direct your
energy into things that help you exercise increased control
in order to build confidence and commitment.
