New Playgrounds Coming to Three Arlington Parks
New playground equipment is coming to three Arlington parks, supporting the City Council priority to
Champion Great Neighborhoods.
The new equipment and playground area improvements will take place at Marti Van Ravenswaay Park, Jake
Langston Park and Carl Knox, Jr. Park. The new equipment will enhance playground safety by replacing older
equipment at these locations.
The existing equipment is over 15 years old and needs replacement to meet current safety and industry
standards. The existing equipment to be replaced is for children between 5 and 12 years old.
The scope of work includes demolition and removal of existing playground equipment, as well as removing
the subsurface drainage and safety surfacing. The contract
also includes the installation of new playground equipment
including swings, slides, and multiple climbing and
spinning components. The new playground improvements
also feature interactive, sensory and imaginative-play
components. The playground design encourages strength
building, hand-eye coordination, balance and problem-
solving skills in children.
City Council approved the purchase and construction of the
playground equipment on June 25, 2019, in the amount
of $257,480. Construction is expected to be complete by
winter 2020.
