2020 - A DIFFERENT KIND OF NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
National Night Out is a time-honored tradition in the City of Arlington that brings together police , other first responders , civic leaders , and community members for a night of fun and relationshipbuilding . While the ongoing pandemic required this year ’ s celebration look different than in the past , everyone adapted and still came together to make the night a success . Rather than neighborhood parties , drive-thru parties were held in each police district . Marked units turned on their lights , officers waved and greeted participants , and handed out free goodie bags to children .
The City is hoping for things to be closer to normal next year , and anticipates the biggest National Night Out yet in 2021 .
FISH CREEK COMMUNITY CLEANUP
On Saturday , October 17 , the Neighborhood Enhancement Team held its second Fish Creek Community Cleanup and Block Party . The cleanup was the latest collaboration between the Neighborhood Enhancement Team and Arlington residents to improve the quality of life and bolster neighborhood pride by keeping the Fish Creek area clean and safe . The event included litter clean-up , light tree and shrub trimming , assisting residents with yard maintenance , and curbside trash pick up . The event was capped off by cookout lunch provided by the Neighborhood Enhancement Team and the Police and Fire Departments .

THE BEACON RECREATION CENTER OPENS IN SOUTHEAST ARLINGTON
The City of Arlington and Arlington Parks and Recreation celebrated the grand opening of The Beacon Recreation Center in southeast Arlington on Monday , Sept . 14 , 2020 .
Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams said the newest City amenity is the latest example of Arlington ’ s commitment to the health and wellbeing of residents . “ Access to recreation programs and events at this facility will enhance the sense of community in southeast Arlington and is an essential building block of the City Council ’ s priority to support youth and families ,” Williams said .
The state-of-the-art recreation center was thoughtfully designed to meet the recreational and educational needs of the growing populace of southeast Arlington , said District 3 Councilmember Marvin Sutton .
Amenities include volleyball , pickleball , and basketball courts , along with a weight room , fitness studio , community room , indoor track , and kids club center . Outdoor amenities include a turf workout space , Aire Fitness pod , splash pad , and playground .
Funding for The Beacon was approved by residents in the 2014 bond program , which included a total of $ 60 million towards parks and recreation projects .
