Code Compliance Connects Residents with Essential Services during February Winter Storm
City of Arlington Implements CodeRED Community Notification System
In February 2021 , the metroplex experienced a devastating Winter Storm affecting several homes , businesses and apartment complexes throughout the City . City of Arlington staff , including Code Compliance Water Utilities , Police , and Fire Departments worked hard to ensure Arlington citizens received all the assistance they needed as quickly as possible . The primary goal was to canvas the City ’ s rental and multifamily communities for the status and availability of utilities , including electricity , heat , and water service . The City identified more than 47 complexes without water or electricity or both , and staff immediately began working with property owners , managers , and residents to deliver water and other assistance as necessary on a case-by-case basis until property owners could fully restore service . City staff was able to utilize existing monitoring systems and workforce to help identify areas with leaking or downed power lines , and expeditiously make critical repairs .
Code Compliance Officers met with the property managers and owners daily as the City began to thaw , and took enforcement action only when absolutely necessary . In just a matter of days , utilities services were restored to all of those unite that lost water and electricity services due to the storm . Code Compliance shifted their focus to assist property owners with interior repairs to damaged units , specifically flooding that occurred . Code Compliance is now working with affected complexes to ensure tenants are being relocated and taken care of while the repairs are being made . A full report of the Winter Storm activities will be provided later this spring .
