Maintenance Achievement Award
Arlington also earned the 2023 TRAPS Maintenance Achievement Award for developing and implementing the Bakari Williams Protocol , making significant investments in health and safety equipment at public pools and splash pads in 2022 . They adopted new policies , practices , and protocols to improve visitors ’ safety and experience at Arlington Aquatic Facilities .
The City of Arlington ’ s Water Utilities Department was honored recently at the Texas Water Conference in Houston .
Arlington Water Utilities brought home two awards from the 2023 Texas Water Conference held recently in Houston . This is the largest regional water event in the U . S ., sponsored by the Texas American Water Works Association ( Texas AWWA ) and the Water Environment Association of Texas ( WEAT ).
Diversity , Equity , and Inclusion Award
Arlington Water Utilities received the award for extraordinary contributions to DEI initiatives in the water sector of Texas and the Water Environment Association of Texas . The department was recognized for an internship program that addresses the workforce development needs of young people aging out of foster care and adults from traditionally underrepresented groups . The department partners with ACH Child and Family Services and Workforce Solutions of Tarrant County .
AWWA Water Conservation and Reuse Award
The department also received the Texas AWWA Water Conservation and Reuse Award in the Large Utility-Indirect category . The award recognized the Lake Arlington Native Plant and Pollinator Garden , a 3-acre demonstration garden and outreach project started in 2022 in cooperation with Tarrant Regional Water District .
