The End of the Year is Coming
How can it be November already?!? 2017 has flown by and I’m still trying to
accomplish some things before year end. But mostly, I’m blown away by the amazing
number of events taking place this month. November is All Veterans Tribute month
and the event schedule is bigger than ever. Look for the schedule on the CVB website,
visitemporia.com. We’ve been posting it on Facebook and have distributed schedules

around town. Watch for the special tabs produced by the Flint Hills Shopper and the
Emporia Gazette. The running list of veterans is included in each with many more
names added this year. If you know of a veteran who is not on the list you may fill out
a profile form at the CVB to get the name added, or you may fill out a profile form
online at visitemporia.com. New names will be added to next year’s list.
The Veteran Banners are up and there are even more this year, 258 to be
exact! Thanks to KVOE Radio, IM Design Group, and Emporia Main Street for
collaborating on the Beyond the Banners book. This book will become a keepsake
featuring veteran’s stories, the history of Veterans Day, and more. Thanks also goes
to all the community partners for holding events that make the All Veterans Tribute
what it is today.
Consider attending Match Day on November 13 at the Flinthills Mall and make
this your day of annual charitable giving. There are 25 organizations in the Emporia
area to choose from. The more you give, the more your favorite charities get from the
$50,000 Match Pool. See more about Match Day at emporiacf.org.
In addition to the many celebratory events for Veterans Day, November really
kicks off the holiday season. Special events are scheduled; the lighting at the Zoo, the
Turkey Day Dash, and the Community Christmas Parade. This year’s parade theme is
“Night of Lights.” The parade is Tuesday, November 28, with a dedication ceremony
at 6:30 p.m. followed by the parade at 7. A new event this year is the Be-Bop Market
on November 19, at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. This just might be the place to get
your Christmas shopping done! Make sure to check out the community calendar at
visitemporia.com. We hope to have all the awesome holiday events listed there. If you
don’t see your event listed, let us know, or submit your event online.
Myself and the CVB staff want to wish everyone a very happy holiday season!
