I’m still on the communication kick! Communications could always be better in
our everyday workplace. My workplace included. We have started 2014 with
an electronic newsletter and monthly calendar. Chamber members receive the
newsletter which includes the monthly calendar. We have had very little response
from anyone wishing to receive just the monthly community calendar by email. I
know there are many people in Emporia that depend on knowing what is going on
around town.
The original purpose of the calendar was to let businesses know what
conventions, tournaments, and large events were taking place in Emporia.
Restaurants and stores got a heads-up to schedule plenty of workers and to have
plenty of food on hand for hungry visitors. And if we’re lucky, there is so much more
traffic in town that our city law enforcement will need a heads-up too, should we
need that special free parking!
Business owners aren’t the only people that should know what is happening. The
calendar gives everyone an idea of some reasons to get out and enjoy Emporia.
There are so many events that happen each month that if we knew of every single
one, they would not fit on a printed calendar page. Now that the calendar is in
electronic form, it can be as long as we want! We strongly oppose the phrase
“there’s nothing to
