Get to Know Emporia !
How often do you give any thought to the community you live and work in ? When talking with family and friends about getting together for a weekend , do you think about Emporia ? If you don ’ t , you should !
I know that we are not going to keep everyone here every weekend . People are still going to have their day outings in different communities , but I challenge you to think about doing those same things here in Emporia ! I am not just talking about shop Emporia first ; I am asking you to get to know Emporia .
My sister and niece will be coming to Emporia for a Hornet Connection . Eadie , my niece , will be attending ESU this fall ! ( YEAH !!) I told them I would give them the official community tour and here are some of my plans !
You can ’ t beat the breakfast from Commercial Street Diner . Then I think we will be pampered with a manicure and pedicure from Dynamic Nails . Then it is off shopping . We will need to stock Eadie up with ESU gear , so will be checking out AKA , The Sports Fan , Mike ’ s Sports Connection , Navrats and the ESU bookstore . Is it time for lunch ? How about Amanda ’ s Bakery !
Rhinestones & Rust , Twin Rivers Winery & Gourmet Shoppe are a must , along with The Junque Drawer and Second Love . We will need to grab a snack from Sweet Granada and the Granada Coffee Company . I would take them over to check out the exhibit and gift shop at the Emporia Arts Center .
I will show Eadie the latest in fashion and fun at the Flinthills Mall . We would end the fun , but long day with dinner at a restaurant of their choice . I wonder what they will be in the mood for ; Casa Ramos , Radius , Bobby D ’ s , Coach ’ s ?
Where would you take family and friends ? Here are some ideas . Visit one of our many parks , or the David Traylor Zoo . Go play golf at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course . ( That used to be the time that I spent with my Dad growing up . Great memories !) How about a round or two at one of our disc golf courses ? Ride an iconic route through Dirty Kanza Promotions . It is finally getting to feel like summer and not winter , so go to the Jones Aquatic Center . If it gets too hot , try something indoors like bowling at Flint Hills Lanes . Check out the movies that are playing at the Flint Hills 8 theatres .
If you are still struggling with something to do , stop by our office and go into the Visitors Bureau . They have a lot of great information like a brochure on walking and biking trails in Emporia or an Emporia Explorer brochure that is a self-guided tour of our great community .
