Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau
From the President
Did you know that over half of our members have five or less employees? A lot
of the time, these businesses are referred as “mom and pop business”. We at the
Chamber and Visitors Bureau always encourage people to “Shop Emporia 1st”,
and support these small businesses. Well over this past month our office has seen
or received some great information to support the efforts of keeping it local.
Guions Showcase was one of those small businesses that shared an article with
us. It came from their buyers group email. I thought I would share some thoughts
from that article that is titled: Small Businesses need you.
Jeanine McKenna
President & CEO
“Do you shop small businesses? Whether it is retail, service oriented, an exercise
facility or an eating establishment – are you a proponent of helping families support
themselves and their employees by supporting their business? If you do support
small businesses than thank you! So much! If it’s not something you’ve given much
thought to than I implore you . . . before making your next purchase – whether is it
dining, lawn care, working out or shopping for stuff please stop and take a moment
to consider the services and goods your local small business can offer.”
Here are some of the reasons they list why you should shop small business.
1. Prices and selection at small businesses are competitive. If you find a lower
advertised price, ask if they will match it. Most will.
2. You will receive a level of service that you don’t always find at other businesses.
Sales staff are knowledgeable about the products and they truly care about
helping you with your purchase.
