October represents a time to catch our breath,
rest and figure out how to move forward
deliberately and relationally.
Let me share a quote from the one-woman play, “Snake Talk: Urgent
Messages from the Mother,” created by Naomi Newman and Martha Boesing:
“Sit down … and wait. Sometimes you got to wait for a very long time. Until
a bird or a stranger comes along with a message. And do you know what you
are supposed to do while you’re waiting? You are supposed to do … nothing.
Nada, zilch, nothing. And if you can do that, if you can do nothing until the
right thing comes along, then you have mastered the hardest part of all.”
As we wait, we can learn how to say “hineini,” I am present.
I would imagine that the overwhelming majority of us would view doing
nothing as a luxury. Family by family, individual by individual, we have a
steadily decreasing amount of time, energy and resources.
