Attention B’nei Mitzvah Families
within a one week period on the Temple Chai calendar the Sabbath of Song,
Tu B’shevat - the holiday of the trees, and our annual Martin Luther King
Shabbat will all be celebrated. No doubt the Midwest weather outside is often
bitter cold but the new year always brings our many celebratory Sabbath
services, full of “soul-warming” new prayer music often featuring nationally
acclaimed performers and musicians. Last year’s Dan Nichols service was
attended by almost 600 folks and was a fantastic evening and a wonderful
example of just such new music.
This new year we’re combining the joy of Jewish Music Month with the honor
and reverence of our Dr. King celebration on Shabbat Evening, January 17,
2014 at 6:30 p.m. when we welcome the incredibly talented Jewish singersongwriter, performer, educator, and ambassador of Jewish rock, Rick Recht.
Rick Recht is the top-touring musician in Jewish music playing over 150
concerts a year in the United States and abroad. Recht is widely recognized
for his appeal to youth and family audiences not only as an exceptional
musician, singer/songwriter, and entertainer, but also as a role model for
involvement in Jewish life. He has become an icon for Jewish youth in the
United States, elevating the medium of Jewish music as a powerful and
effective tool for developing Jewish pride and identity among the masses. He
is also the creator and producer of Jewish Rock Radio the first 24/7 online
