Rashid Rana is considered as one of the pioneers and the most energetic representative of new media art in South Asia . He is known for his diverse practice over the years involving distinct imagery , ideas and pictorial strategies , working in dramatically different mediums and scales . Rana has exhibited extensively at various galleries and museums globally . His works are in prestigious public and private collections including the British Museum London , Metropolitan Museum New York , Fukuoka Museum of Art , Japan and Saatchi Collection , London .
Rana is the recipient of the Game Changer Asia Art Award and Sitara-i-Imtiaz . His most recent work , the façade of the Pakistan Pavilion at the Dubai Expo has received international acclaim .
Although Rana is primarily known for his art practice , he in fact occupies the simultaneous multiple profiles of an artist , curator , educator and a visionary . In the last few years , he had coined the term ‘ EART ’ to describe moments of self-expression beyond the arts : ways of thinking , being and acting creatively in real life . These ideas culminated into a manifesto that was shown at the Manchester International Festival in 2021 .
Rana has contributed greatly to the art academia for last 25 years . He is the founding faculty member and currently the Dean of the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design at BNU , Lahore .
