Ceres Magazine Issue 3 - Spring 2016 | Page 73

In view of the past terrorist attacks, which have gained more news coverage as they have become a pandemic, and the approaching presidential elections once more dividing the country—raising uncertainties, and stirring anger and protests—it would be a good idea to pause and reflect on where women stand in this turmoil. Is the world really changing for the worst? Hopefully not, but if so, what does it mean for the female gender? In the next issue, we will try to analyze the role of women in our today’s society, and how that role is perceived in general. We’ll review women’s obligations, their places in different cultures/religions, the demands imposed on them, etc...

We will also look at their expectations. In our western civilization, women have come a long way; they have emancipated themselves, and they have done so at a price and not without sacrifice. What are their hopes when they hear heated presidential debates, bringing the obligatory controversial subjects involving them? Some candidates even pushing the envelop further with degrading comments on women’s appearance and intelligence meant to relegate them to sex/reproductive objects. Amid the traditional defamation, lies, promises without a glimmer of realization, a new level has been added to the game of insults, sexism, racism and prejudice: the Art of Being Politically Incorrect. The more offensive, the better. The bigger the lie, the more followers. The more unrealistic… the more votes?????? Are we really trying to go back to antiquated times? Why not re-enslave women, and deny them simple rights they fought so hard to win, and are still defending today? We will look into Women’s rights, and some of their advocates, and will interview a few people on the terror craze taking over some parts of the world.

Ceres Magazine is not a political or a news coverage magazine, and does not pretend to dab into politics; everybody’s welcome regardless of their political affiliation. Ceres Magazine does not represent a political party either.

In our next issue, we will also introduce a new section: an Open Letter, where everybody is free to comment on a subject, or welcome to write a piece either to the magazine or to a person (a friend, a family member… ) The subject of the letter is whatever you like. It can be a love letter, a poem, a recipe… It will be a spot in the magazine where you can express yourself, or even ask questions, or reconnect with someone, an old-flame maybe… or send a message. You don't have to be a “writer,” we proof!
