the cowboy actor Rex Bell. She was 28.

A doting mother, she raised two sons while battling a weight problem and mental illness. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1949, and spent the rest of her life, off and on, in mental institutions where she was subjected to regimens of shock treatments.

She died of a heart attack in West Los Angeles, on September 26, 1965, at the age of 60 years old.

Bow was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and, in 1994, a United States postage stamp, designed by caricaturist Al Hirschfeld, honored her. Max Fleischer's character Betty Boop was partly modeled after Bow. Songs were written in her name, and books and documentaries continue to explore the trailblazing role she had in shaping film and culture in general.

The Great Gatsby (1974 film)

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby. The costumes and decor are beautiful, but the directing is sloppy, not short of cinematographic laziness peppered with technical blunders. If it wasn’t for Sam Waterson, the actors were lifeless, dull or borderline unlikable.

of cinematographic laziness peppered with technical blunders. With the exception of Sam Waterston, the actors are lifeless, dull or borderline unlikable.

For starters, why are the male actors’ faces covered with sweat when their attire remains impeccable? It is a distraction that doesn't make sense. Ok, a few references about the hot weather are made, but the shiny, beaded faces do not bring anything to the storyline, the acting, or the visual, and make me wonder if it was a desired effect or bad makeup. The elegance, charm and sensuality leads to an untidiness about the movie, which is also observed in the photography. As, for the choice of the gigantic close-ups of Mia Farrow, they seem more forced than desired (of course she was pregnant at the time of the shooting!)

Second, while reusing some shoots can be time saving, it be-comes an insult to the viewer when badly managed. The party scenes are the most excruciating to watch for that reason. Partygoers are seen in the same costumes, performing the
