1. Plan way in advance. I don’t mean set a date for 20 years’ time but a lot of planning goes into a wedding and the sooner you get the bare bones of your day figured out, the easier everything will be. So once you’ve set your date start making a list of everything you want for your wedding day.

The best advice? Once you’ve written your list leave it a day or two, then come back to it and get rid of all the stuff you don’t actually need! By all means make a second list of ‘nice to have’ things that you can revisit after you’ve got everything else sorted but make sure the essentials are covered first like the church/registrar, venue, suits and dresses, food, drink, cake and entertainment of some sort.

2. Cut the guest list. Don’t invite people you don’t really know that well or you don’t really see that much. Long distance friends that you’ve know forever, yes, the new guy in the office who you’re desperate to get to join your pub quiz team . . . er, no. This also goes for family. If you’re just not that close to some of your family members, then don’t invite them or if you have a big family, you could just invite aunts and uncles and leave the cousins at home.
