Right… now where were we? Ah yes, ‘theme’ – and is there one?

Will you be going down the still ever so popular ‘Vintage’ route? Do you love all things ‘Retro’ or Kitsch’? Do you hanker after a ‘Rustic’ wedding with straw bales and a glorious oak beamed barn? Or is your heart set on a Wallace & Gromit homage in icing? Has your favourite old aunty offered to bake one of her creations? Or are you simply a traditional girl at heart!

Well any bride worth her salt will have a rough idea of the style of wedding she would like. We are girls after all! But whatever theme you do eventually decide upon, keep a few things in mind when it comes to choosing your cake maker and most importantly, do your research!

If you want Rustic, then hunt down a baker who’s known for their rustic styled, or naked cakes. If you want Quirky, find someone who pushes the boundaries of normal cake making. If you want Traditional, locate a baker specialising in classic cake styling.

But this philosophy is never more important than when considering the ‘Novelty’ wedding cake arena. Firstly, stop and ask yourself “will I think this is cool in 10/15 years’ time when I’m flicking through the old wedding album?” and if it’s a resounding YES, then whatever you do, make sure the cake maker specialises in this type of cake.
