The Real Bride
Jars. Tall, short, round, square. At the moment, our house is FULL of them. “Surely we don’t need anymore?!” my other half frequently proclaims as he hears me (sneakily) trying to hide them in the airing cupboard. Like you can have too many jars?! I’ve even got the lovely ladies in work collecting jars for me (just in case I don’t have enough, naturally).
And so this is one of the many wedding projects I’ve undertaken with delight and glee – taking something as mundane and boring as a jam jar and turning it into a lovingly hand crafted candle holder come vase that will share a part of our special day! ME – Natasha; I MADE it.
I was never one of those kids in school who was constantly doodling on their book covers, or spending lunchtime perfecting their Art GCSE piece. I’ve never had a creative bone in my body… or so I thought!
And I am loving it! Maybe nobody else will notice them, or understand the hours I’ve taken painstakingly calculating what size jars on tables, and which of said jars will have flowers and which will have candles. But I will!
And being a DIY bride has been the most rewarding experience for me so far. Table runners, chair sashes, table numbers, save the dates, invites… all made by my fair hands (with a little help from the other half, though he’d hate to admit it after moaning about our vast jar collection!)
My careful love has gone into them and I know I’ll be looking at all the little bits on the day thinking “I did that”. I love that there is an army of brides out there feeling and thinking exactly the same (are you one of them?!)
Never mind girl power, we’re talking about BRIDE POWER ha! Just one of many reasons I can’t wait for our big day - roll on May 2015. Bring it on!
