The John Muir Festival takes place between
Thursday 17 April and Saturday 26 April. It is
one of the signature events of the Homecoming
Scotland 2014 celebrations. It marks the opening
of the John Muir Way, a new coast to coast
national pathway
from John Muir’s
hometown
of Dunbar to
Helensburgh,
and coincides
with the
centenary of
John Muir’s
‘Library of Congress (American Memory)
death.
Produced by UZ Arts, the John Muir Festival
is funded by Scottish Natural Heritage,
Homecoming Scotland and
Creative Scotland and will
take place along the length
of the new John Muir Way.
It will include community
participation events, artistled events and large-scale
public performances to
celebrate the life and legacy
of John Muir.
The John Muir Way will be officially opened
in John Muir’s hometown of Dunbar by First
Minister Alex Salmond on 21st April. All are
welcome to come along and enjoy the Festival
atmosphere, celebratory art, music, performance
and food stalls. A stylised tree will be raised in
tribute to Muir’s enduring love of giant sequoias
and there will be a variety of other artworks. For
