Montgomery Mayor Steven L . Reed appointed James ( Jim ) Graboys as interim Chief of Police at the Montgomery Police Department and named Lawrence L . Battiste , IV as a special advisor to the mayor for public safety . Chief Graboys , currently a Senior Compliance Specialist with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency , served as Chief of Police at Alabama State University from 2012 to 2019 after a 20-year career with MPD .
