HEART OF ALABAMA FOOD BANK MOBILE PANTRY PROGRAM DISTRIBUTES FOOD TO SOUTH MONTGOMERY COUNTY
On July 31 , food was distributed to food-insecure children , families , and seniors at Montgomery County Activity Center . This mobile pantry , the first of its kind in the area , was hosted in partnership between the Montgomery County Commission and the Heart of Alabama Food Bank . The Mobile Pantry Program serves as a primary means of providing food to historically underserved areas . HAFB loads a tractor-trailer with food and delivers it to a desired location to be distributed . Many volunteers and staff participated at the South Montgomery County Mobile Pantry to ensure the success of the project . Food was delivered to 300 food-insecure families .
Montgomery ’ s Homeless Sleeping Mat Ministry weaves soft sleeping mats using plastic bags . It takes 2,005 grocery-size bags to make one mat so the ministry relies on volunteers to help with the process of smoothing , folding , cutting and looping donated bags to weave the mats . Homeless Sleeping Mat Ministry meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at Dalraida Global Methodist Church . Contributions of plastic grocery bags are appreciated and can be dropped off at Dalraida Global Methodist Church during the meeting times .

The Montgomery Lions Club in collaboration with the City of Montgomery announced the preview of its latest project , the Montgomery Lions Club Children ’ s Sensory Trail . The Children ’ s Sensory Trail serves as a walkable connection between Riverfront Park and the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park . It is the newest segment of the ongoing Riverfront Greenway Trail project along the Alabama River . The Montgomery Lions Club contributed $ 120,000 towards the construction .
On June 29 , 2024 , Waka Action 8 News and Chief Meteorologist Shane Butler debuted the first live TV camera in Millbrook as part of their Johnny Adams Law Firm Weather Camera Network . Mounted high enough to see the Montgomery downtown skyline and other parts of Elmore and Autauga Counties , the camera can capture live video of incoming storms in every direction . On a good weather day , the camera can spot all kinds of outdoor activities . Many thanks to Mayor Al Kelley and the City of Millbrook for assistance in getting it installed .
