Background : Starting out with five programs , Easterseals Central Alabama was born on three acres donated by the Montgomery Baptist Association . Easterseals opened its doors in the fall of 1961 . The first individual served was a lady from Opelika who had lost one of her legs just below the hip . She could not wear her artificial limb walking in , but she certainly did walking out !
