Troy University has earned the 2023-2024 Military Friendly ® School designation from G . I . Jobs magazine , along with the organization ’ s highest gold ranking . More than 1,800 colleges and universities participated in the survey , with 665 earning special awards for going above the standard . Institutions earning the designation were evaluated using both public data sources and their responses to a proprietary survey ' s .
ALABAMA ' S COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGES OFFER NURSING APPRENTICESHIPS
Nursing apprenticeships through Alabama ’ s community and technical colleges are helping combat nursing shortages across the state . Since new rules passed last year allowing Alabama healthcare employers to enter into an apprenticeship agreement with nursing programs in the Alabama Community College System , an estimated 400 nursing apprentices across 17 colleges have served with nurses at more than 60 healthcare facilities .

Alabama is just shy of the lowest labor force participation rate in the country with only 43 potential workers available for every 100 open jobs in the state . The Alabama Community College System ( ACCS ) is working to help advance Alabama ’ s workforce landscape through “ Skills for Success ,” an initiative to help workers acquire training and credentials in high-demand industries at no cost to the participants or employers . One example is ACCS ’ Skills for Success fiber optic training program , which is helping fulfill the increased demand from more than $ 400 million in federal funding boosting broadband in Alabama .
