WETUMPKA SPORTS COMPLEX EXPANDS WITH NEW OUTDOOR ROPING / RODEO ARENA

The City of Wetumpka announced the expansion of its Sports Complex with the addition of a new 30,000-square-foot Outdoor Roping / Rodeo Arena. This significant enhancement is made possible through a collaborative investment between the Elmore County Commission and the City of Wetumpka, with additional support from community partners, including Central Alabama Electric Co-op, the Wetumpka FFA Alumni and the Elmore County FFA Chapters. The new arena will serve as the premier venue for the annual Wetumpka FFA Alumni Championship Rodeo, an IPRA-sanctioned event established in 2018.

Wetumpka’ s historic business district is welcoming a highly anticipated new addition. Grove Station is a specialty food market and gathering place that blends high-quality foods with a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere. This project marks another milestone in Wetumpka’ s ongoing revitalization, thanks to the vision and dedication of Jamie and Cathy Thornton. Working alongside the City of Wetumpka Economic Development Department, the Wetumpka Downtown Redevelopment Authority( WDRA) and Main Street Wetumpka, the Thorntons have helped bring this transformative project to life.

MONTGOMERY REALTOR EARNS TOP RECOGNITION FOR HELPING HOMEBUYERS WITH AHFA PROGRAMS

The Alabama Housing Finance Authority( AHFA) has recognized Ja’ Mese Hawkins of Garth Realty Group in Montgomery as its Realtor of the Year for 2024. Hawkins led the statewide field of real estate professionals to help the most home buyers with AHFA programs in FY2024. Realtors like Hawkins used AHFA programs to benefit 1,648 families from 57 counties last year, 96 percent of whom were first-time homebuyers.
One of the survivors of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in 1963 made a stop in Montgomery. Author and activist Sarah Collins Rudolph was the keynote speaker at Auburn University at Montgomery’ s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Reflections breakfast. Often referred to as the“ fifth little girl,” Rudolph was one of 22 people injured in the blast that killed her sister, 14-year-old Addie Mae, and three other girls. Rudolph, along with the four victims of the deadly blast, were in the basement of the church when the bomb went off.
