Trenholm State Community College and Miles College have formed a partnership that will provide a seamless transfer process for Trenholm State students to complete their bachelor ’ s degree . Through this partnership , Trenholm State students will also have opportunities for transfer scholarships , advising from Miles Colleges advisors , as well as access to other student services and athletic events .
Caddell Construction announced the passing of the company ’ s beloved founder , John A . Caddell on March 28 . Having recently celebrated his 93rd birthday , Mr . Caddell died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday , March 27 , 2023 . A nationally known businessman and philanthropist , he was a lifelong resident of Montgomery , Alabama . His legacy will live on , as the company he founded celebrates 40 years in business throughout 2023 .
ALABAMA ’ S COMMUNITY COLLEGES ADD $ 6.6 BILLION TO STATE ECONOMY
Students and alumni of colleges within the Alabama Community College System contribute $ 6.6 billion to Alabama ’ s economy , supporting one out of every 27 jobs in the state , according to an economic impact report released in early February . The independent , 102-page report by Lightcast estimates the Alabama Community College System directly impacts 98,923 jobs in the state , representing about 2.7 percent of Alabama ’ s gross state product . Additionally , taxpayers see a net benefit of $ 1.1 billion in added tax revenue from students ’ higher lifetime earnings and increased output to businesses , and Alabama ’ s community college alumni currently employed in Alabama ’ s workforce added $ 5.7 billion in income during the analysis year . Locally , Central Alabama Community College had a $ 76.8 million impact on their service area during the analysis year . A summation of CACC ’ s direct impact showed that CACC employed 225 full-time and part-time faculty and staff . Payroll amounted to $ 9.8 million , much of which was spent in the region for groceries , mortgage and rent payments , dining out and other household expenses . The college spent another $ 7.2 million on day-to-day expenses related to facilities , supplies and professional services . The net impact of the college ’ s operations spending added $ 13.4 million in income to the regional economy in FY 2020-21 .
CACF AWARDS $ 106,587 IN ARTS AND COMMUNITY BUILDING GRANTS
The Central Alabama Community Foundation ( CACF ) awarded $ 106,587 in Arts and Community Building Grants grants to 16 River Region nonprofits that support the arts and community initiatives in Montgomery , Lowndes , Macon , Autauga and Elmore counties . The grants awarded on February 16 are part of the Cultural and Community Enhancement Grant Cycle that CACF manages . Funds from these grants went directly toward assisting many within these communities . CACF also awarded Give Smart Montgomery Grants to help individuals struggling with chronic homelessness , mental health challenges and substance abuse .
