17 SPRINGS CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING OF PHASE II
17 Springs officially celebrated the Grand Opening of Phase II on February 18 , welcoming the public to explore the expanded sports and recreation complex . The event marked a major milestone in Elmore County ’ s premier athletic and community hub , made possible through partnerships with the Elmore County Economic Development Authority , Elmore County Board of Education , Elmore County Commission , City of Millbrook and Grandview Family YMCA .
SOUTHERN ORTHOPEDIC SURGEONS APPROVED FOR NEW SURGERY CENTER
After months of delays , Southern Orthopedic Surgeons has received approval to construct a new surgery center in Montgomery . The State Health Planning and Development Agency granted the certificate of need , allowing the project to move forward despite concerns from Baptist Health and Jackson Hospital about potential impacts on their operations . The new state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center will include operating rooms , specialized procedure rooms and advanced surgical technology , including a robotic system for joint replacements .
HUNTINGDON COLLEGE RECEIVES $ 1 MILLION GIFT FOR RURAL TEACHER PROGRAM
Huntingdon College has received a $ 1 million gift from Dr . Michael Murphy and Dr . Maureen Murphy ‘ 78 to establish the Dr . Michael Derrington Murphy and Dr . Maureen Kendrick Murphy Rural Teacher Education Scholarship Program . The program will provide full scholarships to high-achieving , high-need students from rural Alabama who are committed to teaching in their hometowns or other underserved areas . This initiative aims to help address the state ’ s ongoing teacher shortage by investing in the next generation of rural educators .
Business Alabama ’ s Exceptional Educators section honors outstanding professionals in education . Among this year ’ s honorees , Annette Funderburk , President of J . F . Ingram State Technical College , was recognized for her leadership in providing career and technical education to incarcerated adults and supporting their reentry into society . Audrey Webb , Director of Apprenticeship and Work-Based Learning for the Alabama Community College System , was also recognized for her role in strengthening workforce development and connecting businesses with training opportunities .
NEW FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM TO ADDRESS CYBER SECURITY TALENT GAP IN ALABAMA
The Alabama Community College System ( ACCS ) and Advantage Consulting & Solutions ( ACAS ) are launching the Alabama Cybersecurity Fellowship to address the state ’ s workforce shortage . Funded by Innovate Alabama , the 16-week program will provide CIS students from Trenholm State , Enterprise State and Wallace Community College ( Dothan ) with hands-on experience , earning $ 18 per hour and three college credits while working with local employers .
HMMA DONATES $ 15,000 TO MEREDITH ’ S MIRACLES
As part of its ongoing community relations initiatives , Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama ( HMMA ) has donated $ 15,000 to Meredith ’ s Miracles , a nonprofit that assists families traveling outside their local area for specialized medical care . The organization helps cover non-medical expenses , such as food , lodging and transportation , for families with children facing critical illnesses , long-term treatments , surgeries and medical emergencies .
