NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES SELECTS DISTRICT 3 COUNCILWOMAN MARCHE ’ JOHNSON FOR CENTENNIAL UNDER 40 IMPACT AWARD

City Council Woman Marche ’ Johnson who is over District 3 has been named among the inaugural recipients of the National League of Cities ’ ( NLC ) Centennial Under 40 Impact Award . The award recognizes and celebrates the achievements of elected officials under the age of 40 from NLC member cities , towns and villages . The winners were chosen from a competitive pool of nominees and are recognized for their outstanding contributions to public service , governance and community development .
As of January 2025 , Alabama employers can apply for a tax credit of up to $ 600,000 for providing child care assistance to eligible employees , either by offering in-house facilities or subsidizing external care . The law also includes tax credits for child care providers and a grant program for nonprofit facilities , each capped at $ 5 million per year . Employers can begin reserving credits on March 1 , with a total statewide cap starting at $ 15 million and increasing to $ 20 million by 2027 , with 25 % reserved for small businesses and rural employers . With Alabama ’ s low labor participation rate , lawmakers hope the initiative will expand child care access , support working families and strengthen the workforce .

ALABAMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM ( ACCS ) ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF HEALTHCARE TRAINING PROGRAMS

The Alabama Community College System ( ACCS ) announced its intentions to expand its Health Science offerings across the state ’ s community colleges in 2025 , specifically the new Nursing Support Technician — Certified option . Nursing Support Technicians are needed in every hospital , healthcare facility , home health and in numerous patient care organizations throughout the state . The Alabama Board of Nursing is aiming to fill more than 2,000 current vacancies in the state .

MONTGOMERY EARNS DUAL GOLD LEVEL CSX SELECT SITE DESIGNATIONS

Montgomery has become the only location within CSX ’ s 25-state network to receive two Gold Level designations from the CSX Select Site program , a recognition that highlights the city ’ s industrial readiness and logistical efficiency . The CSX Select Site program evaluates industrial sites based on strict criteria for development readiness , making these certifications a significant boost for Montgomery ’ s position as a key player in industrial and logistics innovation .

MAYOR STEVEN L . REED SELECTED FOR MICD JUST CITY MAYORAL FELLOWSHIP

Montgomery Mayor Steven L . Reed has been named one of eight 2025 MICD Just City Mayoral Fellows , a program of the Mayors ’ Institute on City Design ( MICD ) and the Just City Lab at Harvard ’ s Graduate School of Design . The fellowship will focus on addressing the nationwide housing crisis , equipping mayors with planning and design strategies to better utilize city resources for diverse housing needs .
