Thirty Military and Veterans College and Career Workshops for Alabama ’ s activeduty military , veterans and their families took place across Alabama ’ s community colleges in January and February , thanks to a sponsorship from the Alabama Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils ( RC & D ). The ACCS workshops took place at community colleges across every region of the state and informed military active-duty , guardsmen , reservists , retirees , veterans and their dependents about the local resources available to them through Alabama ’ s community colleges , including access to veteran service officers , veteran ’ s educational benefits , apprenticeships , career services , mental health support and credentials .

MAX Credit Union was recently recognized by American Banker as one of the 2022 Best Credit Unions to Work For in the Country and has now been named one of 2022 ’ s Best Companies to Work For in Alabama , for the ninth year in a row . To earn the honor , MAX team members were given the chance to provide feedback on a wide range of topics and areas of focus .

CACF AWARDS $ 139,610 IN SHELTER AND SOCIAL SERVICES GRANTS

The Central Alabama Community Foundation ( CACF ) awarded $ 139,610 in grants
to 17 River Region nonprofits that support education initiatives in Montgomery , Lowndes , Macon , Autauga and Elmore counties . The Shelter and Social Services Grants being awarded are part of the Cultural and Community Enhancement Grant Cycle that CACF manages . Listed below are the nonprofit organizations that received grants : Family Sunshine Center , Friendship Mission , House to House Community Development , Rebuilding Together Central Alabama , Women of Refined Gold , Inc ., Aid to Inmate Mothers , Fishers Farm , Impact Alabama , Renascence , Kid One Transport , Habitat for Humanity of Autauga and Chilton Counties , Alabama Kidney Foundation , Butterfly Bridge Children ’ s Advocacy Center , The Learning Tree , Mental Health America in Montgomery , Triumph Services , Inc . and Women in Training .

CIVIL AIR PATROL ’ S NEXT CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER A FAMILIAR FACE AT NHQ

A longtime Civil Air Patrol member with nearly three decades of National Headquarters experience has been chosen as CAP ’ s new Chief Operating officer . The Board of Governors has named John W . Desmarais Sr ., CAP ’ s Director of Operations , to the top executive post at National Headquarters at Maxwell Air Force Base . He will officially become COO at the end of March , succeeding John Salvador , who is retiring . In his new role , Desmarais will manage the day-to-day operations of CAP . He will also be responsible for the centralized procurement of all major equipment , vehicles and aircraft .
