PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT:
Real Estate
The undergraduate Real Estate major launches Fall 2025, building off the success of the school’ s existing Real Estate minor— one of the largest programs in the country with over 900 students, representing a 300 % increase over the last five years. Students majoring in Real Estate at Culverhouse will choose one of three tracks within the major: Real Estate Finance and Investments, Real Estate Development and the Built Environment or Real Estate Brokerage and Management. The Real Estate curriculum includes instruction in principles, finance, appraisal, law, management, construction, development, urban and land economics and investment analysis.
Professional Insights:
“ The study of real estate and the built environment is exciting because it shapes how we live, work, and connect. This interdisciplinary field blends finance, design, sustainability, economics and urban planning. It’ s a space where creativity meets strategy— whether you’ re helping create vibrant communities, navigating brokerage or understanding valuation and lending,” said Alan Tidwell, Ph. D., MAI, Associate Professor of Finance and Director of the Culverhouse Real Estate Program.
Set for Success:
The Real Estate program at Culverhouse equips students for a wide range of career opportunities across the industry through a robust curriculum, complemented by student organizations and extracurriculars such as a student-managed investment fund, the Capstone Collegiate Real Estate Academy and a highly engaged alumni network— all providing hands-on experience, industry connections and access to valuable resources that support students as they prepare for internships and future careers.
Making an Impact:
Graduates of the Real Estate programs are uniquely positioned to make meaningful contributions to their communities. With a deep understanding of property markets, urban planning and sustainable development, they can help create affordable housing, revitalize neighborhoods and support local economic growth.
Notable Alumni:
Jeffrey Bayer, the President and CEO of Bayer Ventures LLC( pictured above), is one of our most notable alums who has made an incredible impact on real estate across the nation, and he is highly engaged with the students.
A Student’ s Perspective:
“ I fell into the real estate profession because of the amazing program at UA. Before I knew it, I was on the leadership for our student investment fund and was getting flown out to global real estate conferences like ICSC Las Vegas and C5 + CCIM. After my internship this summer, I hope to launch into the real estate private equity space,” said Andrew Mannion, VP Investments, Student Real Estate Investment Fund.
