Breakthroughs
“
She was born in Quezon City, Philippines and
moved to England at four months old. At a very young
age, she was influenced heavily in music and her father
would always put on the newest RnB and Hip hop
tracks. When she was a toddler, she loved to dance.
She started singing at different events as the years
went on. When she was about 9, she started guitar lessons which were a really new exciting experience for
her. From those experiences, that served her as a strong
foundation not only to modeling but also finding her
own individuality. This fall, we feature you our youngest yet compelling fitspiration beauty. They say being
young or old is not excuse. Center Stage gives you the
limelight of Harriet Sowah beyond boundaries.
How long you’ve been in the modeling business? “I’ve actually been the modeling business for
around 8 months almost a year by now.” In those
span of year/s, who was your inspiration in modeling/
fitness business? “It wasn’t until recently I’ve finally
found some people I look up to in modeling. I look up
to Supermodels, Cara Delevingne, Jordun Dunn and
Barbara Palvin. One of my friends really loves modeling and wants to be one herself introduced me to
these models. They really are fantastic models and are
people I really look up to”, she shares.
When you were growing up, what was your
goal/s or perhaps dream? “Growing up, I had huge
goals. I really wanted to be a famous singer and live
the high life. I’d like to sign autographs, perform in
concerts the ENTIRE deal. But as I got older I realized
that being famous has many cons and is something that
may not be for me”, she revealed. What was/were the
experience/s when you first start your first ever modeling gig and fitness business? “My first photo-shoot was
really nerve racking and scary because I didn’t quite
know what to do or how to position my hands or any
of that. First times are always scary but once you get
through it, it’s much easier and fun!”
How do you manage your time with you busy
schedule? “When I’m busy, I love bringing my friends
along when it comes to photo-shoots and events because they make it so much more fun and enjoyable.
That way, I won’t have to find EXTRA time with them
to hang out, because they come with me! I also make
sure I don’t have too much going on in one week so
it doesn’t get to stressful and overbearing. I ALWAYS
make room for friends, family, some alone time and
homework.”
How do you maintain your physical physique?
“Exercising is extremely important if you’re a model

because your job relies on your body and appearance.
In school, it is a requirement to exercise at least once
a week. That is a combination of cardio and strength
workouts, I also go jogging regularly to improve
stamina. Eating the right foods is also really important
such as fruit and vegetables.” How many times do you
work out in a week? “Roughly, it’s about every other
day. It is bad to work out every day as your body needs
time to rest and rebuild your new muscles!”
Do you have any favorite workout? “My favorite workouts are always core, focused on the stomach
area. They are, sit ups, crunches, the jack knife and
bicycle crunch.” Is there any work out routine that
you find it ve ry challenging? “Definitely those 30 day
challenges. It’s quite hard keeping that same routine”,
Harriet said.
What types of food do you eat? “Fortunately, I
have been blessed with the genes that allow me to eat
whatever I want and not gain weight at all! However,
if you are planning on losing weight, I would recommend avoiding fat and sugary food.” Since when did
you start to realize that being fit and healthy is a must
these days? “I realized when I started hearing a lot
more about people with diabetes and high cholesterol
and how it was becoming even more common.”
Was there someone who influenced you? “My
personal trainer helped me by getting me to eat the
right food and starting me with a simple meal plan.”
What food or drinks you can’t resist and why? “Chocolate. I can’t resist chocolate. And coke. I just sometimes think ‘Ahh, I really crave a coke right now’ and I
don’t know why!”
Tell us 5 characteristics of you that fans don’t
know? “I’m EXTREMALY lazy. My procrastination
gets really bad when I don’t want to do something. I’m
a really caring person, sometimes I like to put other
people’s needs before mine. I’m really generous, which
I got influenced by my mum and grandfather. When
I really want something done, I can be a determined
person and try and complete a specific project. And
finally, I’m really picky. I get picky when it comes to all
sorts of things, food, clothes, music etc.”
