L.E.A.Ding at GWU
On Tuesday, June 17, members of the GWU community joined CEPL’s Executive Director Jim Robinson at the Leadership, Education, and Development (L.E.A.D.) Power Hour to talk about what it takes to lead in the current-day environment.
The session received a very positive response. Senior Lease Administrator at the Division of Operations Bridget Mburu, who participated in the session, said she “absolutely loved” talking about leadership with Jim.
“He didn't spend time talking so much about leadership styles, positions, or catch phrases,” she said. “He spent more time talking about leadership character (humility, patience) and how leaders influence their teams for success by being supportive of their team, trusting their team, tapping into their teams strengths).”
Previous Cohorts welcome their new compatriots, Cohort 3
“Thank you for partnering with us to co-create the program as you went through it,” Robinson said. “We appreciate your patience and commitment and willingness to assist with feedback and suggestions.
“Cohorts 2 and 3 are especially appreciative and benefitted greatly,” he added.
In addition to recognizing Cohort 1’s accomplishments, CEPL also is proud to welcome the members of Cohort 3 to the program: John Segota, Roger Bain, Nicole Anderson, Kareem Shaban, Jessica Newsom, Geraldine Decembre and Sam Dahl. They will be joined in the fall by Jodi Erickson and Janeene Yarber.
Leadership Tips from the Session:
- It is important to find your passion and feed into your strengths because that will allow you to be consistent and authentic.
-Everyone has their own unique leadership style, and no one style is right. The important thing is to empower your team towards success.
-Respect authority, and realize that there is a reason things are the way they are. Even if you notice some blatant change that needs to happen, you should have the humility to know that solutions have already been considered.
