DEVELOPMENT PERSPECTIVE
42 Years In The Making
Dear Benefactors,
I recently heard a story from the
dear Lyle Carpenter ’48 that I
thought to share with you. Back
when St. Joseph Academy and
the “Old Dowling” merged to
become one in 1972, Lyle was
an original board member and
part of the discussions to build
the “new school.” The size of the
chapel was certainly a topic of discussion. There was a
large space on the north side of the building that could fit
either an auditorium or a chapel - school officials had to
choose just one. In the end, the auditorium was chosen
for the large space and a small chapel was constructed,
with the hope that a larger chapel could be realized at a
later date.
On April 29, the school community will celebrate
groundbreaking on the St. Joseph Chapel – a historic
addition to campus that is 42 years in the making! I’d like
to thank everyone who has invested generously in the
St. Joseph Chapel, which will be large enough to host an
entire class mass, alumni reunion masses and countless
other liturgical celeb Ʌѥ
