Washington Semester Program. She and her peers lived and
worked in Washington, D.C., while also taking classes,
volunteering and getting to know the nation’s capital.
Nick Lauer ’04 visited DCHS recently to inform us that his
father, Joseph, had passed. Joseph was a former maintenance
worker at Dowling Catholic. Nick is currently an instructor
of nuclear energy for the United States Navy.
Congratulations to Virginia Roode ’99 on winning a $10,000
Innovation and Transformation Grant award that champions
a non-profit. On a side note, Virginia and Andrea Hoffman
’99, were childhood friends and Dowling alums who recently
reconnected as both work at LinkedIn. The two are now
working together to start a non-profit to help high school
aged women through the ups and downs of working towards
personal success.

Dowling Catholic, you

Augusta National Welcomes Mike McCoy ’81
Augusta National is considered holy ground in the mind of any serious
golfer. The 2014 Masters, played every year at August National Golf
Club, will take place April 10-13. Dowling alumnus Michael McCoy `81
will be there, and not as a spectator!
Mike earned an invitation to play in the 2014 Masters last October when
he won the 2013 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at the Country Club
of Birmingham’s West Course. He is realizing a life-long aspiration to
play in arguably, the most prestigious golf tournament.
“I’m very thrilled to finally have won a championship,” said McCoy. “I’ve
been trying for a long time. I really chased the dream. And it kind of
came true today.”
He won’t be the only Dowling Catholic alum to walk Augusta National
this spring. His son Nate McCoy, a 2008 graduate currently playing on
the Canadian Tour, will be caddying alongside his Dad. To follow Mike’s
rounds join him on Twitter at mikemccoyUSGA.
Upcoming Event: LinkedIn
Dowling Catholic will host an on-site LinkedIn training on April
3. LinkedIn employees Tim Deegan ’92 (Recruitment Product
Consultant), Andrea Hoffman ’00 (Sr. Relationship Manager)
and Virginia Roode ’99 (Knowledge Management Specialist) will
introduce LinkedIn to the staff responsible for helping students
take the next step in their education/careers and to the student
body to demonstrate to the value it can offer young adults. The
LinkedIn staff will be available all day to answer questions and
assist with profile photos and setup.
